The rePair Project

The project was funded by The Poul Due Jensen Foundation/Grundfos and started in 2021. Purpose was to look into lake restoration with the specific purpose of transforming lake sediments into valuable products - and do it interdisciplinary. The following universities and companies were involved in the project: Aalborg University, Aarhus University, DIS/CREADIS, Technical University of Denmark and University of Southern Denmark. The project was an outshoot of the Lake Stewardship project that is anchored at Lake Ormstrup in Central Jutland.

The project was anchored in the following 8 work packages (WPs):

WP 1 - Dredging and Pumping of Sediment.     WP 5 - Hydrothermal Dewatering and Carbonization
WP 2 - Mechanichal Dewatering      WP 6 -  Electroosmotic Dewatering and Phosphorus Recovery
WP 3 - Water Treatment     WP 7 - Lake Sediment as Fertilizers
WP 4 - Electrodialysis For Removal of Heavy Metals     WP 8 -  Test Of Novel And Innovative Solutions For a Circular Lake Restoration

The dependencies of the work packages was defined as following:

Doing the project, a Lakebot was build with the purpose remove the upper 20 cm of lake sediment with minimal disturbance of the lake ecosystem and gas emission and gently transport the sediment on land.

The Lakebot is lake a huge vaccum claner, that gently suck the sediment and then pump it into land. To be able to handle the sediemnt a production site was established at the shore of Lake Ormstrup. Both the land and the lake is part of Ormestrup Gods. A huge thank you to the mannor for granding access and assist when ever it was needed.
